I play Minecraft since late 2010 and I must admit I really appreciate the "new" game. I really can't decide which one I prefer.

As somebody who is 24 years old and been playing Minecraft for 14 years now (wow it sounds crazy to say) I will say there IS a much different feel to the old game and it has its own charm. But for me personally I do enjoy the newer versions. To me , since I don’t play as much it’s crazy to people when I say that the enderdragon is still kind a new thing when it’s been a thing for like 12 years LOL but idk I enjoy the new versions except I do not like deep slate. But Minecraft even back then has always been a game that got too repetitive for me to play for weeks on end. Even on servers with friends. Idk. And yes like I said there is a charm to the old version is was very chill and didn’t have too much going on. Sometimes even today I see something while playing and just realize how far it’s come from the first time I was on just a public creative server in a browser I believe idk it’s been so long. It’s just crazy. Glad somebody finally made this video and i appreciate your points

I wasnt playing minecraft for many years but one day my 8 years old sister got ps3 version of minecraft and when i am playing with her at split screen i see she has same feelings as me then.

I believed in Herobrine when I was a kid. He ended up visiting my world and left a few signs. Even made a trap for me that would have blown me and my house up. It ended up being my sister who planted everything in that world.

The simplicity vs bloat argument hit the hammer on the head for me. I do like and primarily play modern minecraft, but I don't bother getting to know all the nitty gritty details of every new update the way I did when I was younger. I like to engage with it every now and then, but I enjoy doing so moreso as a novelty, like I did with mods back in the day. It is the simpler things that always draw me back to minecraft. The vibe, the freedom, the creativity often needed due to your limited arsenal. Especially for survival

I'm with you. I like the older versions too. I am doing a lets play series on Minecraft 1.2.3 but I do play beta and alpha Minecraft quite a bit too.

The new Minecraft versions from I would say 1.14 the game just became "too alive" for me, the game stopped being what it used to be the best.... liminal, scary, "dead" game, no other game has the feeling of the old Minecraft, I preferably play on versions below 1.7.10 because in those versions you still get the feeling of old minecraft, If I play the new versions I use the beta textures with a nostalgic resource pack, I don't know, but I feel the new Minecraft became primarly a game for small children, that are not supposed to be on the internet, which helps the game to be more popular, but still has a bad feeling when playing it while knowning that small kids play it, which ultimatly might kill the old community in the old run.

I remember horses being added on legacy console editions on december 2014. I remember feeling Minecraft started to change at that time, becoming too complicated. It felt weird playing the game i previously played everyday religiously hours at a times. After that update i started to let the game go. It didn’t interest me as it used to. I guess pre 2014-2013 was a better time for Minecraft because everyone was still experimenting with the game and Mojang didn’t know what direction they wanted to go with Minecraft. Back then the base foundation of the game was simplicity. They should’ve kept it with that. People tend to forget that not only the players experimented with the game, the devs did too.

There’s really no need to even explain it, to long-time players anyways. Everyone who played old Minecraft knows exactly what you mean. The game was already huge with more than enough to it even in its beta stages. The current amount of blocks and features that the game now contains is uncomfortably overwhelming, honestly a turn-off. You said it perfectly with “decision paralysis.” Adding more and more stuff isn’t always the solution to improvement, and sometimes it can really ruin something that was already perfect.

I took a few years off from playing Minecraft. When I started again I played 360 edition. Im scared to see what modern Minecraft looks like in comparison.

I think the thing that ruined minecraft modding most was the same thing that changed beta so much up to release. Too much unnecessary garbage, less fun embedded in the actual gameplay, and an additional thing: sweaty redditors who want a "hard" or grindy minecraft experience. Create is a good example of a fun mod that doesn't need to be grindy or have 1000 headache recipes to do cool things.

8:54 so relatable dude. I consider myself a pretty creative person, but when it comes to playing modern Minecraft I struggle so much because there’s almost too much stuff to work with. Even the planks I want for my house I have like 8 different options and it gets so overwhelming.

the fact there are no villagers in the old version of minecraft reminded me of something. I used to pretend I was the last person alive in the world and when I was going out on into the minecraft world I was looking for other humans that hadn't turned into zombies. I remember making a sign at my base saying "Only humans welcome" and I would hope that another human would find my base. They never did of course. I would always build high up and make something big in the hopes someone would find my base, in their own search. Great video by the way.

and this is why I would argue Minecraft is one of the best games, Its not that one version is better than another and the game keeps getting "better", but rather its the fact that you can play it how ever you want. I'm someone who loves adventure and mods, so the modern update and well, mods, can fill those roles very well. But another person would enjoy different version, some play only creative building, some play old school and just vibe, some explore the world to find strange occurrences, and even more pushes the boundary between a game and actual engendering. Minecraft is such a complicated game in how you can play it, not what there is to play.

it makes me sad that people are SO sure that more is better that this even needs to be explained. modern minecraft has WAY too many blocks and WAY too much game.. it is diluted to the point of meaninglessness. the essence is lost.

That small hut was my first actual organized house before I started to work on my building skills on creative. Exactly how he said it. The simplicity of Minecraft made thr game more unique and the community was helpful on teaching you to build or compliment your skills even if its bad. I miss those days man

There was a period of time from 2013-2020 where I hadn't play MC. When I got on I was completely overwhelmed. I don't know how to do anything. I think that's one reason I only play creative.

I agree with the video, there is some stuff that beta does better. I personally play modern Minecraft but I was there back then when Notch was still involved. i remember when world generation changed and I disliked the new terrain from the beginning. I think the iconic beta terrain was one of the main selling points of the game and Mojang threw it away. I agree that colors (especially biome foliage colors) lack vibrancy in the game, that's why I prefer a regular forest biome. Jungle, dark forest and savanna also work (many players like savanna mountains) but the jungle, and dark forest are hard to build in. You brought my attention to the role of a fog in the game. I thought it was just an effect of the short render distance. I downloaded a fog mod and will see how it works. I think developers are aware of the trends in the community, and often implement features from popular mods. I think this new trend of growing beta popularity didn't escape their attention either. I hope they will find some kind of solution. There is another once popular game that suffers from feature bloat - World of Warcraft, and many players prefer to play classic version. A similar phenomenon to what's happening in Minecraft.

i played a bit in hs and college around 2011-2017 then took a break. just got back into it and only just now learned that there is an ender dragon but i was never unoccupied playing back in the day

When notch was in charge it was perfect, or just 4J studios with the legacy versions. Just not Microsoft or these billion dollar companies, minecraft was just made with more passion before. Now everything is just bought up and plain, simply to make money.

I hate new Minecraft. SO many useless items that crowd my inventory. There's a 2007 presentation Valve gave on building game economies. Using what you have in your game world and finding new ways to reuse those things make the game easier and more fun. Seems like Mojang adds stuff because there's a quota to meet.

Old minecraft was just simpler back in the days.

New terrain generation made things huge, making your builds seem less significant, lost in the vast world. Back in the day every building looked important, the sky was very low. Lower the cloud level in new versions, you will see the difference immediately

I will say for all console players, do not get PC thinking you can easily switch on Bluetooth and play with your controller. Annoyingly Minecraft does not have that option. So you have to install a Mod or Install seperate programs that will allow you to play with a controller. Its a headach.
